The Secret Agent by Joseph Conrad has many examples of loyalty which can be connected to Rudyard Kipling's Kim. The biggest one would be each books' depiction of loyalty to political power and the contrast each book holds. Where Kim shows a loyalty to British rule and westernizing the East, the characters of The Secret Agent touts a lack of government as the best path. Each novel has characters fighting for these ideals, but ironically both protagonist work more off of self-interest than from any overwhelming loyalty to the cause.

The Spy who Came in from the Cold by John Le Carré us full of characters with varied loyalties. Le Carré explores loyalt to country and ideologies as well as people and relationships. Similar to how Kim intoduces a connection between Kim and the lama setting them both on a new path, the same is done for Leamas and Liz. Unfortunatly, the later set of companions meet a more tragic end but the message is the same. A single connection and circumstances will forge loyalties and destroy them. In the game of espionage, loyalty is both a strength and a weakness.
